The moving truck is booked, the final inspection has a date, and the carpet still has a mark from the week the puppy came home. That's a typical call from the Fort Jackson side of town.
East Columbia runs along Garners Ferry Rd out toward the post, and a lot of military families here move every two or three years. Some own in Kings Grant or Olde Woodlands and sell when orders come. Others rent in Hampton Hills or the apartment communities nearby and need the carpet to pass inspection. The timeline is always tight, and nobody wants a wet floor on the last night in the house.
Done before the truck leaves
For a PCS move, dry time is the whole point. So little water goes into the carpet that most rooms can take foot traffic again an hour or so after we finish. Schedule us the morning after the movers load, do your own wipe-down that afternoon, and hand over clean, dry carpet the same day.
A few things help on the day. Let the movers take the furniture first, because an empty room cleans faster and more evenly. Leave the AC running. And if the housing office gave you a checklist, hand it to the tech, who will look at the same things the inspector will.
Inspectors notice pet spots, and they notice the smell even more than the stain. Surface cleaning can't fix urine that soaked into the pad. Plenty of people on this side of town aren't going anywhere. Retirees and longtime owners call for ordinary reasons: a gray hallway, heavy traffic lanes, a dog who got into the trash.
